Winter is the general of the redcaps, the personal guards of the King of the Unseelie Court, and as such is sworn in blood to protect the King and the royal line.

History[]

At some point in his life, Winter began serving the Unseelie King Arawn as a member of his personal guard, the redcaps, and rose to the rank of general. He got the moniker Winter because he was said to be able to "wipe out a whole village faster than a deadly frost."

In 2012, he was among the redcaps guarding the King in the throne room of the Unseelie Tower when the fight against the prisoners broke out. He witnessed Prince Kieran kill his father and was the one who declared the Arawn's death, revealing his name in the process. After all the prisoners fled, Winter told Prince Oban and the Shadowhunters Manuel Casales about what had happened. Oban claimed the throne for himself, despite not being its rightful successor which Winter agreed to have his men keep secret, and had Winter crown him the new King of the Unseelie Court.

As the General of the redcaps, Winter attended the staged parley arranged by Oban and the leader of the Cohort, Horace Dearborn, on the Imperishable Fields. When the farce was exposed by Livia's Watch and a battle ensued with the Shadowhunters and Downworlders against the members of the Cohort and the Unseelie faeries, Winter defended King Oban fiercely until Oban was killed by Cristina Rosales. Winter quickly shifted his allegiance to Kieran, the new Unseelie King. Winter told Kieran that, as the King, he could open a door to Faerie to get his people to safety. When Kieran decided to stay behind on the battlefield for Mark and Cristina, Winter stayed with him to protect him.

After they won the war, Winter sent a message in an acorn to Kieran telling him that all the Shadowhunters and Downworlders who had passed through the door to Faerie seeking shelter had returned home. The message also asked for his return because the longer the King stayed in the mortal world, the more the land of Faerie weakened.[1]

Physical description[]

Winter is described as a tall and massive, heavily muscled figure. Like the other redcaps, he wears a red uniform, dyed with the blood of those he killed, and iron boots. He also carries a swordstaff.
