Wild magic is an old, ancient form of magic that is practiced by faeries.
Description[]
Wild magic is not bound by many rules.[1] As such, older fey groups are seemingly made of wild magic. The Riders of Mannan in particular are a kind of wild magic. It is because of this, that they are able to lie, unlike other fey.[2][3] The members of the Wild Hunt are described as feeling like wild magic because it is wild magic that binds hunters to the Hunt.[4]
History[]
Wild magic existed long before Jonathan Shadowhunter.[5]
The Wild Hunt uses wild magic to bind hunters to the Hunt. The details of how it is used by the Hunt are unknown to most as the fey are very secretive and most of the information shared by the Hunt has been purposefully misleading.[6] However, it is known that the initiation process involves drinking water mixed with the blood of the leader of the Wild Hunt, Gwyn ap Nudd. The wild magic in this causes one of the eyes of the initiate to change color, while the other remains the same, marking them as one of the Hunt.[4][7]
In the Seelie Court, a pathway made of wild magic exists that leads to Edom. Because of its nature, it was never able to be regulated by the Nephilim as it was outside of their jurisdiction. In 2007, Jace Herondale, Clary Fairchild, Simon Lewis, Isabelle and Alec Lightwood used it in order to travel to Edom and defeat Sebastian Morgenstern. The path was later sealed by Sebastian.[5]
