- As with the first volume, it contains an exclusive scene not from the books. The scene is between Magnus and Alec, when Magnus came to the Institute to heal Alec in City of Bones.
- The cover is based off of the tarot card suits of Pentacles and Wands.[1]
- Cassandra Jean had initially planned for this volume to feature Swords and Cups like the previous installment but it felt was too similar and decided to go with the full tarot theme.[2]
