The Last King of Faerie is the first novel in the upcoming The Wicked Powers series written by Cassandra Clare.[2]

- It is set in 2015, 3 years after Queen of Air and Darkness[3] and roughly 13 or 14 months after Secrets of Blackthorn Hall.[4]
- The main story will take place in multiple locations, with Dru Blackthorn being in a different place than Kit Herondale and Ty Blackthorn,[5] who will start at Cirenworth.[6] None of them will spend much time at home or school during the book.[7]
- Early on, Dru and Thais Pedroso see Simon Lewis and his band play Pandemonium with Clary Fairchild, Jace Herondale, Magnus Bane, Isabelle and Alec Lightwood.[8]
- Kit and Ty are both aware that their feelings for one another are romantic from the beginning.[9]
- The only characters that have point of views will be Dru, Kit, and Ty.[10]
- Ash Morgenstern will not have a POV in this installment as Cassandra would like to keep his motives/actions mysterious.[11]
- Jaime Rosales will also not have a POV as he is still missing when the book starts and part of the story will be spent searching for him.[12]
- Thais, Dru’s best friend and roommate at the Academy, plays a significant role in the book. The two are often in trouble together and share a close bond. One of Dru’s earliest scenes shows her being called into the office after a classmate insults her family. Thais has a love interest introduced in the book—possibly someone already familiar—and a storyline of her own.
- The death of a character who has appeared since the original The Mortal Instruments trilogy will occur in this book.[13]
