A suggenes is a term used to refer to the person at a Shadowhunter wedding who walks the bride or groom along the aisle to their betrothed welcomes the latter to the former's family,[1] similar to the tradition of "giving away" the bride to the groom in mundane ceremonies. In some cases, their duties extend to reciting the second vows in the ceremony, if the bride and groom so choose.[2]

Typically, a suggenes is someone they consider to be a close and significant person in their life, and is almost always one's parabatai if they have one.[3] It is not necessary, or sometimes not possible, to have a suggenes.
