The Codex is a sort of textbook for new Shadowhunters, containing many stories about the Nephilim's history: the story of Jonathan Shadowhunter and how the Shadowhunters came to be, the creation of the Silent Brothers, the invention of parabatai and much more. It contains introductory information about Downworlders, demons, Shadowhunters' places and territories such as Idris and Alicante.
