A scrying glass is a magical item used for scrying. One known variation is the scrying glass of the fey,[1] which they consider their treasure.[2]

Description[]

Scrying glasses are typically created using a reflective surface, usually a mirror or a pool of water. These tools allow one to look into the surface, onto which a scene is projected, and see what is happening somewhere else in the world.

The scrying glass of the fey in the Seelie Court is a golden bowl filled with water placed on a stone plinth, placed directly below a crystal set into the ceiling. In the presence of dark magic in the scene monitored by the glass, the surface will begin to roil before it cuts out completely.[2]

The Cohort's scrying glass magicked by Oban is a silver handheld mirror.[3]

History[]

In 2012, the Seelie Queen used her scrying glass to show Julian Blackthorn what was happening to his family back in Los Angeles. Through the glass, Julian watched Malcolm Fade kill his uncle Arthur and resurrect Annabel Blackthorn, only to be killed by her himself. The glass was unable to follow her movements afterward due to the amount of dark magic generated by the resurrection ritual and the Black Volume of the Dead.[2]

Later that year, then King of the Unseelie Court, Oban gifted a scrying mirror to his ally Horace Dearborn. He magicked it to reflect the fields before the Unseelie Tower in order to show him the army of Unseelie warriors he had gathered.[3]

Trivia[]

  • In real-world divination and occult practices, scrying is done as a prominent means of fortune-telling, as a means of revealing the future or other unknowns, or to detect significant messages or visions, for personal guidance, prophecy, revelation, or inspiration.[4]
