Rupert Blackthorn was the husband of Tatiana Lightwood and father of Jesse Blackthorn.
Biography[]
Life[]
While visiting family friends in London, he attended a ball at the Institute. There he met Tatiana Lightwood and was seemingly smitten, being only interested in dancing with and speaking to her despite having many admirers.[1]
He and Tatiana eventually wed and after coming home from their honeymoon, decided to pay a call to his wife's family home in Chiswick with the news of their pregnancy. The demonic worm that Benedict Lightwood had become seized him from his family's carriage, leaving a frightened Tatiana inside. He was seemingly eaten or otherwise ripped apart and killed by the demon, as his severed foot was later found in the bushes.[2]
Post-mortem[]
At some point after his death, Tatiana worked with the Prince of Hell Belial to bind his spirit away from the other dead and in connection to the place of his death with the promise to one day raise him. This purposefully kept him from being able to interact with the ghost of his son, Jesse, though he did see him in his sleep.
In late December 1903, Lucie Herondale pulled his ghost from its resting place in order to convince Tatiana to call off the attack on the London Institute. Rupert was disgusted by what his wife had done in his name against the people who were not responsible for his death and had in fact avenged it. He went on to formally renounce her as his wife and anything he had ever felt for her. After she fled in distraught horror, Rupert used his remaining moments to finally speak to his son and tell him he was proud of him and the honor he was restoring to their family. He was then pulled back to his confinement.[3]
Physical description[]
Rupert was said to be the mirror image of his son, Jesse; they both had the same coloring and similar bone structure.[4]
