Rosamund Wentworth is a young Shadowhunter in London during the early 1900s, prone to engaging in gossip with her friends.

History[]

At the party thrown at the London Institute to welcome the Carstairs family in 1903, Lucie Herondale introduced Cordelia Carstairs to Rosamund and her friends, Ari Bridgestock and Catherine Townsend. When Ari complimented her dress, Cordelia tried to impress them with details; Rosamund, seemingly off-put, said that Cordelia must have thought them dull. Catherine cut Cordelia off before she could explain. She changed the topic upon the arrival of James Herondale and Matthew Fairchild, noting their attractiveness. Rosamund ended up dancing with their friend instead, the rather awkward Christopher Lightwood.

At the picnic at Regent's Park the next day, her brother, Piers, was attacked and fatally wounded by a demon in broad daylight. Rosamund refused to leave his side, almost getting attacked herself before James came and slew the demon. Later at the Institute, she stayed by his bedside in the infirmary.

Days after he had been cured, Rosamund attended the Enclave meeting to discuss the events of the past few weeks. During the meeting, Rosamund was spotted looking positively pleased following Cordelia's ruination.[1]

At some point between August and December, she got engaged to Thoby Baybrook—supposedly out of jealousy of Cordelia's engagement to James and to prove Cordelia wasn't the only one getting married that season. She flaunted her engagement heavily at James and Cordelia's wedding.

A few weeks later, they held their engagement party at her family home. There was an ice sculpture of Rosamund and Thoby in the center of the ballroom, which happened to be the reason why the party had not been called off in light of the recent death of Amos Gladstone. After asking Thoby to take James to the new billiards room, she gleefully sequestered Cordelia with the married and matronly women. She was seen later eyeing James after he rejoined the party and, some time after that, arguing with Thoby—seemingly because the ice sculptures had started melting. When Charles Fairchild and Grace Blackthorn arrived late, she rushed to welcome them. She tried to steer Grace to the group of unmarried women, however, Grace decided to dance with Thoby, something which shocked and irked Rosamund.[2]

Trivia[]

  • She and her brother used to make fun of Lucie Herondale for having a ghost friend.[1]
  • Rosamund's family home is apparently referred to as "the Pastry" because of the architecture both inside and outside the house making it resemble a cake.[2]
  • She was originally named Rosamund Townsend.[3] The surname was instead used for her friend Catherine.
