The Rosales family is a Shadowhunter family, consisting mostly of Mexican members.

History[]

The Rosales family once had a close relationship with the Fair Folk, resulting in certain members owning objects charmed with or protected from faerie magic, such as the Eternidad.

The family is in charge of running the Mexico City Institute. After Tomas Rosales's death during the Dark War in 2007, he was replaced by his sister, Carmen Delgado Mendoza.

In 2012, the family had an important role fighting the Cohort.[1]

Their family symbol is the rose.[2]

Etymology[]

The name Rosales comes from a derivative of the Latin word "rosa" ("rose") and is the plural form of the Spanish word "rosal", both of which mean "rosebush".[3][4][5] Though Rosales is not exactly a composite word like other English Shadowhunter names, its translation (rosebush) is.[6]

Trivia[]

  • According to Cassandra Clare, Spanish/Mexican families would have the pattern for the apellido materno (maternal surname) on the outside surface of their family rings, and the pattern for the apellido paterno (paternal surname) goes on the inside; as an example: Cristina's ring has roses upon the outside and a pattern of mountains on the inside.[5]
