Redcaps are among the most vicious of faerie warriors and are the personal guards of the King of the Unseelie Court, commanded by General Winter.
The redcaps are sworn in blood to protect the Unseelie King and the royal line and they live in the Unseelie Tower, in Faerie, where they guard the entrance to the throne room.
History[]
In 2012, when two lines of redcaps were guarding the throne room, Emma Carstairs and Julian Blackthorn passed through them unnoticed under the effect of an invisibility potion. Shortly after, the redcaps took part in the fight that unleashed inside the throne room to protect the Unseelie King against the Seelie Queen and the prisoners, before Kieran killed the King.
After Oban claimed the throne for himself and was crowned the new King of the Unseelie Court, the redcaps marched with him to the parley staged by Oban and the Cohort in the Imperishable Fields. A battle was unleashed with the Shadowhunters and Downworlders against the members of the Cohort and the Unseelie faeries and many redcaps were slaughtered.
When Oban was killed by Cristina Rosales, their allegiance shifted to the new Unseelie King, Kieran, and they passed through the door Kieran opened to Faerie to get to safety, when Julian and Emma turned into true Nephilim during the battle.[1]
Physical description[]
Unlike most faeries, the redcaps are bearded and have weathered faces. They wear red uniforms and caps dyed with the blood of the ones they killed and iron-stone boots. They carry long pikestaffs with metal spearheads stained with dried blood.
