Rayan Maduabuchi is a Shadowhunter and a graduate of the Scholomance.

Biography[]

Rayan originated from the Lagos Institute until he attended the Scholomance and became a Centurion.

In September 2012, Rayan was sent to the Los Angeles Institute as part of a team of Centurions tasked with finding Malcolm Fade's body and the Black Volume of the Dead. While in Los Angeles, Rayan participated in patrols and tried to stay on friendly terms with the inhabitants of the Institute. He also spoke out against Zara Dearborn when she began talking about the merits of the Registry.[1]

A few weeks later, Diego Rosales returned to the Scholomance with a faerie prince that he was hiding in order to protect him. Rayan didn't seem too bothered by it and even lent Kieran some clothes since they were closer in size than he and Diego. When the students who were a part of the Cohort returned to the Scholomance, Rayan and Divya Joshi rushed to Diego's room to take Kieran and hide him before Zara caught him. However their attempt proved fruitless; Rayan did his best to stop them but the Cohort knew he was there and took him from them to the Hollow Place. Together, he and Diego pulled the prince out of the water and supported him as they left. He then stayed behind to prevent anyone from following.

Rayan was soon arrested, along with Diego and Divya, by the Cohort. They claimed them to be traitors for helping a fugitive faerie and allowing him to escape after hurting Samantha Larkspear. They were locked in the cells of the Gard, supposedly until the Mortal Sword was reforged and they could stand trial. Though they later escaped thanks to Dru Blackthorn's lock picking skills.

At the Cohort's parley, Rayan helped form the Malachi Configuration that was used to imprison members of the Cohort before joining Livia's Watch on the battle field. He was later seen as part of the barricade of Shadowhunters that were trying to stand between Julian Blackthorn and Emma Carstairs —who had become True Nephilim—and the city of Alicante.

When the Cohort presented their ultimatum at their sentencing meeting, Rayan joined his Scholomance friends in leaving Idris.[2]

Personality[]

Rayan is a friendly person and, according to Diego Rosales, a generally good one. He does not agree with the views of the Cohort and shows concern for others.

Relationships[]

  • Rayan is good enough friends with Jon, Diego and Divya.
  • Rayan is also in good terms with fellow Centurion Manuel Villalobos, whom he did not realize was pretending to be their friend while deeply intertwined with Zara's plans.
