Oneiromancy is a form of magic, by which one is able to control and transport people in dreams. It can also use dreams to predict the future.
Description[]
Oneiromancy involves controlling dreams using magic. In this condition, the dreamer may feel as if they are transported to another time or place. The practice of this magic can be quite difficult to master.
The powers of the spell do not seem to be able to keep it as a memory. In most cases, the experience will fade just as any dream would, unless you are told beforehand and able to protect against it or work to commit it to memory.[1]
History[]
In 1903, James Herondale began receiving dreams of the murders his grandfather Belial was committing. He later used oneiromancy with the help of the Greater Demon Lilith to travel through realms to spy on Belial in Edom.[2]
Once her view of the Shadow World was no longer blocked, Clary Fairchild began to receive dreams and visions from the Angel Ithuriel. He used oneiromancy in order to communicate to her ancient runes and to give her prophecies of the coming future.[3]
Later that year, Lilith used oneiromancy in order to possess Jace Herondale. She repeatedly sent him dreams of him harming or killing Clary, driving him mad with guilt. Eventually she appeared to him in a dream as Max Lightwood and convinced him to take her mark and give himself entirely to her.[4]
In 2010, Magnus Bane used the last of the magic from his Svefnthorn wound, to perform a massive oneiromancy spell in order to host a wedding for his close friends Tessa Gray and Jem Carstairs. In order to do this, all the attendees needed to be asleep, including Magnus himself. He was able to weave a beautiful wedding for them on Blackfriars Bridge and was even able to change everyone's attire from pajamas to wedding wear. He sent the summons to all of Tessa's descendants and their other friends and loved ones. He reached out to a couple of the Silent Brothers and even Mark Blackthorn of the Wild Hunt, unsure if either would be able to receive the call. Luckily, they were all able to come, even Church and the spirit of Will Herondale.[1]
While in the Wild Hunt, Kieran used to send Mark Blackthorn dreams when he could not sleep. It was considered a faerie gift. However, after Mark had left the Hunt, Kieran did so again, against his will, in order to find out the truth. He believed him to be lying to him and thought he would not be able to hide his true feelings in a dream.[5]
