Michael "Mike" Smith is one of the mundane students of the Shadowhunter Academy in 1890s.
History
In 1899, Mike was one of students who James Herondale met on his first day at the Academy. James sat with Mike in the dinning hall, and Mike was pleasantly surprised to have a Shadowhunter sit with him, not knowing the controversy of their family. They were soon joined by another mundane student, Esme Philpott.
During the following weeks at the Academy, Mike, James, and Esme kept each other company during their lessons and breaks. However, after James's ability to Change into a shadow was revealed to the whole student body, even Mike and Esme began to avoid him in fear, though Esme later apologized on his behalf, saying Mike was being an idiot for ignoring James.
