Marax is a demon who Charlotte Branwell encountered when she was young.
History[]
One evening, a barrister, who was a member of a circle of mundanes who fancied themselves magicians, attempted to raise a demon, chanting and drawing pentagrams on the ground much like warlocks would do for a summoning. Successfully, the barrister raised Marax; however, presumably since the summoner did not know that it was necessary to bind the demon within the pentagram, the barrister and his family were subsequently slaughtered by Marax. The demon took their heads and hung their bodies upside down in the carriage house while he roasted the youngest of the children over a fire.
Although the carnage was investigated by Shadowhunters, among them Charlotte, Marax was never found.[1]
