Love runes cannot be used to make someone fall in love or feel those kinds of feelings; they are merely used to symbolize and communicate the different kinds of love.

  • You may see them on banners or clothes at a wedding, for example.

Known Variations[]

There are many different forms of love. As such, there is a different rune for each type of love.

Type Description Rune
Agape
Unconditional love. It is love given to another person, even if this does not benefit the giver; and regardless of whether the love is requited.
VF Rune, Agape Love
Banquet
A love that shows itself through altruism and self-sacrifices for someone else.
VF Rune, Banquet
Eros
Passionate physical love. It can also be emotional, but it is most often based on sexual attraction and enjoyment.
VF Rune, Eros
Ludus
Playful uncommitted love. A ludic lover may have multiple partners and view them as conquests; they just want to have fun, nothing serious.
VF Rune, Ludus
Mania
Obsessive love. In mania love, you experience great emotional highs and lows. It tends to be very intense and intimate, but it also often includes a sense of possessiveness and jealousy.
VF Rune, Mania
Philautia
[1]
Self-love. This is not the narcissistic, self-involved kind of self-love. Philautia love is self-compassion; caring for and loving yourself like you would for someone else.
VF Rune, Philautia
[2]
Philia
Dispassionate virtuous love. This is love you feel between family and friends. It requires loyalty, equality, virtue, and familiarity.
VF Rune, Philia
Pragma
A practical love. It is love determined by the rational decisions of who you fit best with rather than by your heart.
VF Rune, Pragma
Storge
An affectionate love based on similarities. A storge lover wants someone they have shared interests in and can feel security with. This often develops slowly over time from a friendship.
VF Rune, Storge

Trivia[]

  • The rune meaning "Agape" is often referred to as simply the "Love" rune.
  • Cassie and Valerie Freire originally fought over designing a love rune. Valerie claimed she couldn't morally rationalize turning "love" into a rune. In the end they came to the agreement that Valerie would design them if she could make one for each type of love as well as be in control of their definitions.
