Grave dirt is the soil from where a vampire was buried and reborn. This dirt holds special properties and a connection to said vampire to the point that they can tell when it is being walked on or some has been removed. Most commonly, it is used to summon the vampire.[1]

In 1977, when the vampires from the New York vampire clan got addicted to drugs by drinking tainted drug-infused blood from mundanes, the clan's grave dirt was used to summon them all back to the Hotel Dumort to detox.[2]
Years later in 2007, Camille Belcourt gave Simon Lewis a vial of her own graveyard dirt.[3] Later in December of the same year, the Spiral Labyrinth provided the Clave a great quantity of this substance —alongside salt and cold iron— to protect themselves from the faeries during the Dark War. However, this proved not to be enough as the faeries from the Wild Hunt are immune to it.[4]
