Gottshall is a servant of the York Institute, whose Sighted family has been serving the Shadowhunters of the Institute for almost three centuries. He speaks with a heavy Yorkshire accent.
Gottshall is also the Institute's carriage driver, and was the one who picked up Tessa Gray, Jem Carstairs, and Will Herondale from the train station when they visited the Institute.[1]

He has a long white beard, thick white eyebrows, and very dark, black eyes.
