"Glorious" is the celestial sword of the Archangel Michael, and the sword used by Joshua during the Battle of Jericho. While its angelic name is different, the word "Glorious" was given by Raziel to be spoken by mundanes.
The sword is infused with heavenly fire. Striking an enemy with it will burn the evil out of him or her; however, if the enemy is more evil than good, like in the case of demons, then it will also burn the life from the being.
Raziel lent the sword to Simon Lewis and the others so that it may be used to sever the bond between Jonathan Morgenstern and Jace Herondale. While it was intended to be used by Simon, Clary Fray, at one point, got ahold of the sword and was the one to use it on Jace. After its use, the sword was consumed by heavenly fire and went back to where it came from, its power transferred inside Jace Herondale's body.
