“It felt so real, so utterly real—”

This article depicts a subject within the The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones film universe, and as such, it either does not play a role within or differs largely from the established continuity and canon of the books of The Shadowhunter Chronicles.

Wow Clary, you look… different.

–Eric to Clary Fairchild, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones

Eric is the mundane friend of Simon Lewis.

Biography[]

Eric is one of Simon's friends who lived in Brooklyn, New York.

He often recited poetry at Java Jones coffee shop and Simon and Clary Fray would go to see him—despite both thinking his poetry was horrible.

One day, when Clary was walking with Jace Wayland, Alec Lightwood and Isabelle Lightwood toward Madame Dorothea's apartment to look for the Mortal Cup, they accidentally bumped into him. He could only see Clary, since the others were glamoured, but he noticed Clary had a new look, causing him to stare at her and Isabelle to push him out of the way. Afterward, he texted Simon telling him where Clary was.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

  • While Chris Ratz was credited with the name of Eric, he was never referred to with it in the film.
    • His character was described as someone "who considers himself an avant-garde New York intellectual. Clary and Simon loyally attend his band performances and poetry readings and sometimes he turns out to be useful, but rarely on purpose."[2]
