Ethelred the Herondale is an ancestor of the Herondale family from the 1200s who was the first to be able to see ghosts.
History[]
Ethelred the Herondale was haunted by the ghost of his murdered wife. He later threw himself off a tower, presumably as a result of the haunting.
The ability to see and hear ghosts, whether they want to be or not, has been passed down through his male lineage ever since.[2]
