The subject of this article is a real-life person, place, company, product, or creative work that has been mentioned "in-universe" in a canon source. Edgar Allan Poe was an American writer who knew about the Shadow World.

History[]

At some point in his life, Edgar heard the tale of Malcolm Fade and Annabel Blackthorn's love and Annabel's death; their tragic story inspired him to write the poem Annabel Lee shortly before his death. Malcolm found out about it years later and tried to find Edgar so they could talk, but the writer had already died.[1]

Trivia[]

  • Edgar's poem Annabel Lee is part of the basis for The Dark Artifices.[2] Lines of the poem are used as the chapter titles of Lady Midnight. His work "Dream-Land" was featured as the introductory poem of the similarly-titled Part One of Lord of Shadows and lines from the piece are also used as chapter titles. Similarly, his poem "City in the Sea" prefaces Queen of Air and Darkness and its lines make up the chapter titles as well.
