Chthonian is among the many demon languages that warlocks can understand, and one which Shadowhunters recognize as common.[1][2][3] Shadowhunters try to understand at least a few phrases in its written and spoken forms,[4] and even study it.[5][6][7][8] Warlocks may speak this language when casting certain spells.[9]
