Careful of Books is the title for an upcoming collection of four novellas by Cassandra Clare set to release in the winter of 2024. This book is a limited edition that is part of the Seasons of Shadowhunters.[4]

- A Sea Change — The only story set within the Shadowhunters universe which focuses on the future of Matthew Fairchild.[5][6][7]
- Two of the stories are retellings of classic stories.
- The final story acts as a first look at an upcoming fantasy project of Clare's.[8]

- The title comes from a Tessa Gray quote in Clockwork Angel: "One must always be careful of books...and what is inside them, for words have the power to change us.”
- It originally shared its title with an existing short story from Collector's First Editions of Chain of Iron before the title was shortened for aesthetic purposes.[10]
- The cover is representative of spring to fit the Seasons of Shadowhunters theme and the originally planned release schedule[1] before printing delays. The image in each corner symbolizes one of the four novellas.
- It was set to be released second[1] but was swapped with An Illustrated History of Notable Shadowhunters & Denizens of Downworld in September 2024.[3]
