The Blackthorn sword is an ancient longsword that has been in the Blackthorn family for several generations.
Description[]
The blade is made of steel and its crosspiece has a carved thorn design—the symbol of the Blackthorn family.[1] It has a tooled leather sheath that allows it to be strapped on someone's back.[2]
History[]
As of August 1903, the sword could be found hanging on one of the walls of a small single-roomed structure in the Italian gardens of Chiswick House where the glass coffin of Jesse Blackthorn was kept.
It was used by the ghost of Jesse Blackthorn to protect Lucie Herondale and Grace Blackthorn from the demon Namtar.[1]
In December 1903, Jesse used the sword as his main weapon in battle after returning from his unliving state. During the fight against Belial's army of Watchers, Bridget Daly asked for the sword from Jesse, who willingly gave it to her. While Bridget was holding the sword, it was struck by lightning which ultimately resulted in the destruction of the sword's blade. Six months later, while the Merry Thieves and their friends were burying objects that represented their past, Jesse buried the hilt as it represented the version of a Blackthorn his mother Tatiana wanted him to be and not who he was.[3]
In 2014, the coffin containing the objects was unearthed and in it, Julian found the hilt. He intends to have the blade reforged.[4]
