Belphegor's realm is one of worlds existing on a plane overlapping with the known world. It is also the realm of the Prince of Hell Belphegor—which was stolen by Belial—and is considered a demon realm of Hell.
Description[]
The world appears to be almost devoid of color and is covered in sand with multiple dunes and paths. The landscape shows signs of a ruined civilization, which James at one point saw similarities to London buildings and landmarks. It also has a map of stars in different constellations.[1]
Known history[]
This realm was initially under the rule of the Prince of Hell Belphegor. Many centuries previous to the 1900s—long before Shadowhunters were even created—Belial greatly wounded Belphegor and stole the realm from him. It is believed he still floats between worlds trying to find his way back. Over the course of the centuries, Belial began bending the world to his will so that everything was under his command.
In the late 1800s-early 1900s, Belial began sending images of this world to his grandson James Herondale. James was eventually forced to go there completely by the Mandikhor attacks ravaging London. Following his arrival, Belial attempted to convince James to allow him to possess him so that the two could have immense power and Belial could walk the earth again. When James refused, Belial summoned the Mandikhor to fight James as punishment. James was soon joined by Cordelia Carstairs who had broken into the realm using her blade Cortana. After James successfully destroyed the demon, Cordelia used Cortana to stab Belial through the chest. Belial crumbled away like dust resulting in the realm's total destruction.[1]
Trivia[]
- Because this world is layered closely to the known world, Emmanuel Gast was able to summon the Mandikhor demon partially in each world; thus allowing it protection from the sunlight.[1]
