Arabella was a mermaid who was present in the first few meetings in London discussing the attempts to sign the Accords.
History[]
Arabella swam up from the Thames to attend a meeting in London as a representative of the mermaids. She was hauled out by pulleys and placed in a seashell in a large glass aquarium, or tank. A charming mermaid, according to Magnus Bane, Arabella was among the attending Downworlders who spoke up about their disdain in the direction of the meeting, surprising the Nephilim. During the awkward meal that followed, Arabella asked for a scone.
At the next meeting, Arabella was the only Downworlder who responded to Amalia Morgenstern's attempt to pacify the arguing sides by offering scones; Arabella asked for scones and cucumber sandwiches. After the meeting, when Arabella's tank was being carted out of the Institute, Arabella was frightened by the attacking demons and hid at the bottom of the tank. Granville Fairchild and Josiah Wayland protected her, standing in front of her tank to fight off the demons.[1]
During this trip to land, or another in the years following while trying to make the Accords, Arabella believed herself greatly offended by Shadowhunters and sought revenge. By 1903, she was still looking for her chance at revenge when she found the opportunity at the Hell Ruelle. While she flirted with Anna Lightwood, she mixed poisonous drinks for warlocks in the room: Hypatia Vex and Malcolm Fade. After their death, she planned to blame the Shadowhunters present. However her plan was foiled by Cordelia Carstairs who noticed the blossoms of a variation of belladonna she had used to mix the drinks. Upon being exposed, she was arrested and locked in the Hell Ruelle's Whispering Room till she could be brought to the Spiral Labyrinth for trial.[2]
Physical description[]
Arabella has tumbling blue-green hair that has small fish living in it. When on land, her human legs still show a faint pattern of rainbow scales.[2]

- She is the first mermaid to ever be known by name in the Shadowhunter Chronicles.
- As a mermaid, she can have legs when up on land, though they are very difficult and painful to walk on.[2]
