Adam Whitelaw was a Shadowhunter and the husband of Marian Whitelaw, the former head of the New York Institute.
History[]
Unable to have children of their own, Adam and his wife adopted Rachel and some other orphaned Whitelaw cousins after the death of their parents. They cared for them fiercely as if they were their own children.
In 1989, Adam and the other Whitelaws of the Institute heeded Magnus's call for help and went to Chinatown to defend a pack of werewolves from the Circle. In the ensuing battle, the other Whitelaws were killed and Adam was mortally wounded. Magnus attempted to heal him, but Adam knew it was a lost cause and did not want to live without his family.[1]
